It depends on how u define Malay. A Malay is someone who speaks the Malay language and practice Malay culture, so the ancient Filipinos can be considered "Malays". In the current context, I think only the Bangsamoros, can be considered as "Malays" as they more culturally closer to the Malays than the modern day Filipino.?

just cuz the ancient Filipinos spoke Old Malay dont mean they were Malays. Old Malay had been the unifying lingua franca of the? Malay Archipelago FOR MILLENIA. sure the ancient Filipinos had extensive contact and trade with Malays and maybe a Filipino here and there "MAY" have a Malay acnestor somewhere but not the majority.
