@YMCMBNEXT: The way I do it is that I try to put maximum weight on my back leg. When you are ready to swing, the front leg moves forward and the back leg pivots. This is why you see professional players kind of kicking the dirt with their back leg when getting ready to hit. What happens if the batter knocks over his own wicket? (I live in Canada) Is it like hockey where you can score on yourself? If he knocks it over, does it mean he is out? When does the pitcher or bowler or whomever have to throw the ball by? In baseball? the pitcher must have a foot on the rubber part of the mound when the ball is released... Cricket confuses me which is why it interests me! I know baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis all very well, so if you can relate it to those that'd help!

I agree with jbaby...you can not look at a MLB power hitter and expect to see a perfect stance. Those guys are the best of the best and have adapted there stance and swing to their bodies with YEARS of practice. Most of them are a horrible example of how a young player should stand and swing. I can almost bet the farm that they started out with the stance you see in this video. All players little league through HS and even? college should be taught level swing and dont drop shoulder.

you arent SUPPOSED to drop your shoulder! dropping your shoulder decreases power and cause the ball to pop? up. Only the best power hitters can drop their shoulders completely and still get a hit, which is normally only a homerun. pujols can do it because he is strong as fuck, same with manny... any stance works, its all about bat speed and a short swing. look at craig counsels goofy ass stance for instance...that guy is nuts

thats a horrible stance. you are supposed to have your stance wider and knees inside your feet. your hands should? be brought back more and cocked so when you come through the zone you can flick your wrist. your swing should not be level and your shoulder is always supposed to drop. if you disagree, look at any great hitter. albert pujols for instance.

Great? coaching by a truly great man, huge loss to cricket and to the world when he left us in 2007. I read somewhere that when he first started coaching in South Africa during apartheid and the ensuing guerrilla war he used to coach kids of all races and colors and for those who lived in bad neighborhoods he would drive them back to their houses. That's not always true. By shuffling across, one ensures that the pads become the second line? of defense and for a delivery spinning from outside leg stump, you negate the LBW. I agree that it kind of improves your off-side play at a certain premium. This technique deesn't work for all cases. You'd ideally do it to an out-of-the-rough left arm spinner or a huge leg spinner like MacGill. Also good against bowlers like Mitch Johnson who mostly take the ball away.
