I believe the 4 were chosen to go because God was punishing those in the committee for Pride - like Mother said to Fran in her dream. They were the only ones not killed by Harold. Fran lost Stu (for a while), Stu got his leg broke and almost died, Tom ended up saving Stu's? life, the 2 who died in the explosion allowed all of those in Vegas to congregate next to the a-bomb. Who knows what King was thinking.

It must have taken you quite some time to (download?)/upload this much material. I had first read The Stand in 1983, & once again a few years after. When the miniseries came on TV in '94, I? was aware of it, yet only caught bits & pieces. I just spent part of the last 3 days watching this strait thru. Oh, the nostalgia. Thanks for all of your work putting this together. I did read somewhere that as of this year, they may start shooting a feature film(s) of The Stand...Peace

Imagine a steroid-amped 5? ft tall Billy Idol bisexual who drinks Coors by the case and drives a hot rod 30's deuce coupe. His social skills are so poor that when his fellow Flagg followers tease him for his erratic behavior, he firebombs said detractors in the hanger where they're training to be Flagg's military air force. Then he flees to an underground Nevada base (one w/ nuke cruise missiles to play with), gets lonely, regrets hurting his boss's war? plans & decides to "make good" by bringing back a warhead. The journey next to the high-rad warhead leaves him like a broiled chicken.

Aw, you left out that part where they're parading? Larry & Ralph through Vegas! That was a good part, too, because it's where Flagg "speaks for America" and calls Larry & Ralph "insurrectionists" (see the similarity to our "Patriot Act" allowing the fed gov't to warrant-less arrest, indefinitely detain and even torture anyone deem "insurgents"?practically the same word). The rest of the film's good, but I just found that part peculiarly prophetic.

it is explained in much better? detail in the book, but it takes trashy a long time to get to the bomb. In the movie, he is just pretty much able to walk into a warehouse & pick one out. In the the book, he has to figure out a way into the base(without electricity) and load it on to the trailer & manage to get it out. that much exposure is what cause the radiation sickness... mind you i am no radiation expert! :)

Gary Sinise was really good in this. So was the guy who played Tom Cullen (just perfect? as far as casting). The girl who played Nadine Cross was good and creepy too. And Ruby Dee did a wonderful job as Mother Abigail. Even Rob Lowe did an admirable job as Nick. The rest of the cast.... meh.

I actually liked that part as the Kid was a humorous character in a disturbing way. This was the only part of the book that really went into the Trashcan Man so I can't see how it was too much. They should have reduced Mother Abigail's life story or all the? early scenes with Fran and Larry Underwood. King goes on and on about Larry being a whore with money problems yet rushes through the parts with Flagg and the actual "stand" in Vegas.

You know. Stephen King helped write the script for the movie. Right? I agree, the book was much better, but, generally, they always are. Anyways, it's a 1,553 page book (the uncut version, which, everyone will agree, is so much better). If they made the whole thing into a movie, It'd have to be at least 9, 10 hours long. Though, don't get me wrong, I would LOVE? to see another Mini-Series of The Stand, like, done over the space of a year. That would be amazing!

Now this is a place where? I feel torn. On one hand it would be horrible to die slowly like Harold did, but, you can't feel sorry for a guy who tried to blow everyone up because he was mad about losing his non-girlfriend. Actually it's pretty brilliant, since it shows that good looks aren't everything. Fran is thus uninterested in Harold not because of how he looks but because of how he acts. He may be handsome but he's an awkward, creepy, selfish little dork despite it. No need for his appearance to fit his personality.?

Best way to describe him (without telling you to go read all the other books he's in... which you should) is as follows: He's more or less immortal, a powerful sorcerer, and demonic in nature (though its said he was born a normal man). Throughout his appearances in books his power seems to rise and fall. In "eyes of the dragon" his power seems to be on the rise, it reaches it's climax in "the stand", and then seems to diminish throughout "the dark tower"? series. Hope that helped!
